| 《清朝袖炉海报》 This painting represents a sleeve furnace product in a poster design from the 20’s to 40’s. The sleeve furnace is a hand heating tool commonly used in the palace. It is small and exquisite and it also combine the essence of ancient and modern arts and crafts. It is a treasure in the palace. From the end of Qing dynasty to the beginning of the period of the Republic of China, noble ladies still used it as heating tools or decorations as it was very precious. In modern times, it known as “Hand Furnace”. This painting adopts the mixture of two eras, presenting classical products with a semi-modern poster style and also reflects the changes of old era, as a design concept. 《葵浴》 The expression of the girl is sullen and the background is full of gloominess.. The traditional flower bath is a custom to wash away the sinful and sinister that stick to the body. The uses of sunflower are to represents the hope of life. As the vitality of sunflowers charge with positive energy and brings good luck! 《默默等待孩兒回家》 Batik is a kind of cloth in Malaysia. When it is almost the time for Hari Raya Aidilfitri, the elderly will make batik for their children to express ther blessings. | 這個作品取材於排灣族的五年祭。一方面是想表達以前原住民的日常生活，另一方面也將原住民為了保有自己傳統而每五年舉辦的活動紀錄下來，其中五年祭本身活動的精神在於告訴我們人要飲水思源，慎終追遠，敬重神靈。 在描繪原住民的服飾中，每個圖騰、紋路都是與祖先和神靈的聯繫，雖然描繪不易，卻也從中感到排灣族祖先的智慧與勤勞。 蹲姿的婆婆專注的控制火力，避免午餐不小心焦了。小女孩乖乖的站在一旁，看著婆婆如何用古早時期的方式，耐心的處理午餐。雖然有點因為枯燥或身上繁華的服飾讓全身不自在而皺起了小臉，不過還是靜靜地等待。在長者與少女這樣自然而然的狀態下，讓旁人感受到，這是一個承傳的過程。 從一個旁觀者的看法，覺得原住民族所承傳的不只是活動祭典的儀式、設計精美的服飾，而是承傳那自古以來，從祖先那靈魂深處所保有的敬天重德，使受到現代社會影響而心靈浮動的族人，能夠安穩下自己的心神，用超常的看法來應對紛亂的俗事。 在忙碌的現代社會，有多少人能夠遵循與找回那種初心和古意？中華五千年的傳統文化與道德精神瑰寶，也需要更多人們的守護與關注。 |

| Ethiopian Smile: The young girl, Rahel, is an extremely poor Ethiopian girl in a war-torn famine ridden country. Her Father deserted her and her mother, who had no income. This painting of her was made into a card so others could see the need and contribute to this desolate Ethiopian area. The mission provides for clean well water, clothing, school equipment and teachers. Old Man of the Sea: On a visit to Juneau, Alaska I noticed this compelling old man sitting near some trash cans. Residents told me he was a Tlingit Native they called "Old Man of the Sea". He often roamed their streets. The Tlingits are indigenous natives of the Pacific NW coast of North America who largely depend on fishing and hunting. They are also family-oriented basket weavers, totem pole carvers and colorful dancers. I was touched by his simple life in a beautiful, rugged countryside. Bird in Hand: Every year the Minnesota Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community promotes a Wacipi. A Wacipi is a traditional Native American cultural celebration of dance, song, costumes and socializing. In the Oakota language "Wacipi" means "they dance". These tow Native women attended and were glad to meet again coming from different states. It took them out of the celebration to a more peaceful landscape. This painting is to promote appreciation of our Native American Heritage. |
