The beginnings of Alexandra Telgmann's artistic work were influenced in her childhood by her father, an important goldsmith artist. After successfully completing her master's degree in goldsmithing, she studied portrait and nude painting at the College of Art and Design in Savannah/USA and gave her artistic career a new direction. Numerous international and national exhibitions in Charleston (South Carolina), Las Vegas, Colorado Springs, Paris, Munich and Leipzig followed her first solo exhibition “Laconella” at the Pinnacle Gallery/Savannah USA. Her oil paintings are currently represented by the Grand Bohemian Gallery in Charleston /USA and the 33rd Contemporary Art Gallery in Chicago. Till March one of her paintings is shown in the Museu Europeu d`Art Modern (MEAM/ Barcelona/ Spain). In January two of her paintings will be exhibited in the Pictor Gallery New York in cooperation with the MEAM Museum Barcelona/ Spain

Alexandra’s work specializes in the natural interaction between the female body and the element of water. The deep connection between the artist and the sea is visible in many of Alexandra's paintings. For her, the sea is a decelerating place of power that creates inner peace and at the same time reflects states of consciousness of one's own life. This intention always flows into her work.

Information about the Painting:

The inspiration for this painting is the feminine body surrounded by the beautiful ocean and it’s fish. As soon as you dive into the water you stop breathing and focus on the new and different world around you and your movement in it. You are totally present, which is a feeling I love.

This piece was inspired when I was parked next to a dock at dusk. The headlights of my car illuminated a group of fisherman walking back from their trip. I thought of a narrative in which two sisters were taking a rest from a long day's work before they took their journey back home.

Ethiopian Smile: The young girl, Rahel, is an extremely poor Ethiopian girl in a war-torn famine ridden country. Her Father deserted her and her mother, who had no income. This painting of her was made into a card so others could see the need and contribute to this desolate Ethiopian area. The mission provides for clean well water, clothing, school equipment and teachers.

Old Man of the Sea: On a visit to Juneau, Alaska I noticed this compelling old man sitting near some trash cans. Residents told me he was a Tlingit Native they called "Old Man of the Sea". He often roamed their streets. The Tlingits are indigenous natives of the Pacific NW coast of North America who largely depend on fishing and hunting. They are also family-oriented basket weavers, totem pole carvers and colorful dancers. I was touched by his simple life in a beautiful, rugged countryside.

Bird in Hand: Every year the Minnesota Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community promotes a Wacipi. A Wacipi is a traditional Native American cultural celebration of dance, song, costumes and socializing. In the Oakota language "Wacipi" means "they dance". These tow Native women attended and were glad to meet again coming from different states. It took them out of the celebration to a more peaceful landscape. This painting is to promote appreciation of our Native American Heritage.

此作品以我本人青少年时期的经历为背景。 1999年，中国共产党开始了对法轮功的残酷镇压，许多法轮功修炼者顶着巨大的压力坚持向民众将真相。在这幅画中，小女孩儿已经将一些真相传单放入了袋子中准备出门，但是内心非常紧张和害怕。此时她正在发正念，被主佛的慈悲包围，感受到神在背后的支持和鼓励，驱散了恐惧和担忧。

I am an autodidact. I have an technical degree and I was a car mechanic.
When I was 22 I discovered that painting was my real passion. I did in the evening hours an education on the Art Academy in Amsterdam.
When I was 24 I took private courses in the 17th painting techniques/materials. Because the Art Academy didn't teach this. So I went to musea to do research to old masters and to old grounding/techniques.

- I have sold a lot of portraits of landscapes and still life paintings

After being second finalist of this program Project Rembrandt I regulary get questions for assignments for paintings from the old masters (inclusive old materials like selfmade varnish and lead white for example).

The title of this painting is translated from Italian as “The Mask”.

I was inspired by a number of things that happened.
1.My great fascination for masters such as Rembrandt van
Rijn, Gerard van Honthorst, Caravaggio and many more.
2. I saw an announcement of an exhibition about candlelight in Gouda (a
Dutch city, known for its Gouda cheese and also for
candles)
3. And finally a personal story. The personal story goes
about meeting some people who are not quite authentic. Much of their behavior was based on their beautiful facade. This is
the reason I painted the person with the mask in the dark. The darkness symbolizes also a way of emptyness behind this mask.

This painting belongs to the realistic school. The idea came when I read your announcement about the competition in reviving painting in a realistic and sober style, proportions and aesthetic dimensions that are subject to in-depth study and go back to the works of ancient times from the era of the Romans to the era of the Pharaohs to the Renaissance. And we tried to show our ancient civilization, which has no less historical value than it, and it is considered one of the mother civilizations, the Kingdom of Sheba, and it is one of the oldest kingdoms in history, and I tried to show its strength through its features and the enormity of its crown, which is studded with jewels and diamonds, as well as the hoopoe. I gave it a huge body, strength and insight, as for the background details of the queen All of them are somewhat by choice
1- The winged lion to denote the strength of the army and the people.
2- Grape leaves to denote fruits and goodness.
3- Long-horned heads of cows stacked together to indicate strength and livestock.
4- The ibex at the head of the painting denotes sanctity and worship.
